What the last tenant
left behind.

Most units get a turnover wipe between tenants — counters, floors, a pass at the bathroom. What almost never happens is inside the oven, behind the fridge, the inside of the kitchen cabinets, or the tracks of the shower door. That’s what you inherit on day one, and it’s far easier to deal with before your things are in the room.

The two rooms that matter most.

1. The kitchen. Inside the oven, the fridge and freezer, the dishwasher filter, the range hood, and every cabinet and drawer interior. This is where turnover cleans stop and where you’ll be putting your food.

2. The bathroom. Tile and grout, the tub and shower doors descaled, behind and around the toilet, inside the vanity. Twenty minutes with a spray bottle doesn’t touch any of it.

None of this is glamorous and all of it is easier while the apartment is empty. Once the boxes are in, it’s a much bigger job — and it usually just doesn’t get done.

Getting keys September 1?
So is half of Boston.

Most Greater Boston leases turn over on September 1 — the busiest moving day in the country. Trucks double-parked across Allston and Brighton, elevators booked solid in Back Bay, and every cleaner’s calendar full weeks in advance.

How turnover week actually works.

August 25–31 — the move-out crunch. Your unit has to be empty and walkthrough-ready before you hand back the keys. These are the most-booked cleaning days of the entire year — the earlier in August you book, the more choice you have.

September 1 — keys change hands. Landlords run back-to-back walkthroughs. A unit that’s professionally cleaned gets a checkbox inspection; one that isn’t gets an itemized deduction list.

September 1–7 — the move-in wave. The apartment you’re moving into was vacated hours before you got the keys. If nobody booked it a real clean, you’re unpacking into someone else’s year of kitchen grease. Book the move-in clean for the day you get keys, before the truck arrives.

Landlord or agent juggling multiple September turnovers? We do back-to-back vacant units — see how we work with real estate agents and property managers.

Leaving a place too?
We do that end as well.

Same clean, opposite direction. A move-out clean leaves the old place walkthrough-ready for the landlord. Same scope, same flat pricing, from $299 — and plenty of September clients book both ends in one go.

The smart order for a September move.

1. Clean before the boxes. Book the move-in clean for the day you get keys, before the truck arrives. An empty apartment gets a dramatically better clean than a full one.

2. Unpack into organized space. Our home organizing team can set up your kitchen, closets, or pantry as you unpack — a Half Day Organize is $180 and turns box chaos into a system.

3. Keep it that way. Start recurring cleaning from day one — it’s 10% cheaper than one-time cleans and your place never gets the chance to slide.

Already settled and just need a reset? That’s a deep clean — same thoroughness, no moving boxes required.

Four things we
actually commit to.

Often same-week availability

Move-out timing is tight. We schedule around end-of-month crunch. Book as early as you can — same-week is often possible, next-day isn't guaranteed.

Questions we
get asked a lot.

Most turnover cleans between tenants are quick — counters, floors, a pass at the bathroom. They rarely include inside the oven, the fridge, the dishwasher filter, the insides of cabinets and drawers, or the shower door tracks. Those are exactly the places you'll be putting food and toiletries in week one. If the unit genuinely looks spotless, book a regular clean instead and save the difference — we'd rather tell you that than sell you the bigger service.
Yes. Inside the oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer (lint trap and drum), all cabinets and drawers, all closets. Plus baseboards, window tracks, door frames, light fixtures, and inside the bathtub and shower. Move-out cleans are more thorough than deep cleans — the unit needs to be ready for walkthrough.
Walls: spot-cleaned for marks and scuffs. We don't do full wall washing or paint touch-ups. Carpets: vacuumed thoroughly. Carpet shampooing or steam cleaning is a separate service most landlords have done by their own vendor — check your lease before booking us for that.
Usually yes, but it depends on the week. Move-out cleans tend to cluster around the 1st and end of each month. If you need a specific date, book as early as possible — same-week is often available, but next-day isn't guaranteed.
As soon as your lease is signed. September 1 through 7 is the busiest week of the year for cleaners in Boston, and move-in slots on the 1st itself go first. Booking early costs nothing extra and locks your slot; you can reschedule with 24 hours notice if your dates shift.
Yes — same scope, same flat pricing (from $299). A move-out clean leaves the old place walkthrough-ready for the landlord. Plenty of September clients book both ends: a move-out at the place they're leaving, and a move-in at the new one so they unpack into something genuinely clean.
Yes. Unmess is insured and bonded through Hiscox, and we can send a certificate of insurance to your building manager before the clean — a common requirement in Back Bay, South End, and Longwood elevator buildings. Just ask after booking and we'll take care of it.
Yes, and this is the whole point — book it before the moving truck. We can work around a few boxes, but once furniture is in place we can't get inside the cabinets or behind the appliances, which is most of what you're paying for.
Greater Boston — Brookline, Newton, Cambridge, Allston, Brighton, Jamaica Plain, Back Bay, South End, Longwood, Chestnut Hill, Newtonville, West Newton, Newton Centre, Cleveland Circle, Roslindale, West Roxbury, Somerville, Belmont, Needham, and surrounding areas. Enter your zip at booking and we'll confirm.
Flat pricing by apartment size, shown before you book: $299 for a studio or 1-bedroom, $325 for a 2-bedroom, $349 for a 3-bedroom, and $400 for 4+ bedrooms. That's the complete move-in cleaning service — inside every appliance, cabinet and closet included. No quotes, no in-person estimate, no upsells at the door. Move-out cleaning is the same flat price.
A deep clean is for a home you're living in — we work around your furniture and belongings. A move-in clean is for an empty home and goes further: inside the oven, fridge, cabinets, drawers and closets, plus window tracks, baseboards and door frames. If the place is still empty, book the move-in clean even if you searched for a deep clean — it's the more thorough service and the same price.

Outstanding service. I hated having to talk to people on the phone to schedule things — this was just a case of scheduling a calendar slot (like every other sensible business, but somehow almost never for cleaners). Service was well priced, and they did a great job. Will hire again.
